In a statement posted on Facebook, Paul Oxley, the National Chairman of Gun Owners South Africa, wrote, “Lawful firearm owners saved our democracy this week.” According to Oxley, even the police had to rely on armed civilians for ammunition and protection from the looting and rioting mobs. However, Oxley explained that the civilians who protected the police are the people that the Police Ministry is now trying to disarm.
