The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District will be changing its logo after 50 years due to several students and community members who feel the time has come. “When they remove the logo, for me and the community, it would be really symbolic showing that the district is willing to change … it would show Indigenous students support, that we’ve got your back, that you’re allowed to embrace your culture”, one person said. Their hopes are to bring awareness to anti-indigenous bullying and racism. Unsure of the root of the change, an ideology that wants to erase anyone who may have had a bad past is detrimental to a school district.
