Panama Catches 52 Al-Qaeda Suspects Among Migrants Headed to U.S.

According to Customs and Border Patrol, officials have stopped more than 1.7 million migrants on the southern border during the 2021 fiscal year, which ended in September. The Washington Post reported that illegal crossings began rising last year but skyrocketed in the months after President Biden took office. Panama’s foreign minister recently told U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, “there are over 100,000 migrants coming through Panama on their way to the U.S.” Panama has “apprehended 52 people that are associated with al-Qaeda.”
