Police Unions cite the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as responsible for the surge of smash-and-grab crimes. They alledge the ACLU led citizens to believe Proposition 47, also known as the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, was highly endorsed by trusted sources and would improve public safety. The Proposition was supposed to help criminals acclimate back into society by lowering the standards of offenses, but it appears to embolden criminals instead and help them be more calculated in their crimes.
