Merck’s Antiviral Covid-19 Pill Can Cause Birth Defects

Members of an FDA-selected panel of doctors warned that the Merck Molnupiravir pill could cause birth defects if used by pregnant women. The FDA panel voted 13-10 to recommend the emergency use of the newly developed pill form of the vaccine for public use. Merck is the first to produce a pill form of the vaccine, but the company is not confident their pill can perform as expected.
