Marco Rubio Announces Bill to Stop Federal Funding for Cities That Allow Non-Citizens to Vote

Objectivity 4.0 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.8

Florida Senator Marco Rubio plans to introduce legislation to withhold federal funds from cities that allow non-citizens to vote. His move came one day after the New York City Council voted to give non-citizens the right to vote in local elections. Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, a native of Ukraine, said extending voting rights to non-citizens is a “slap in the face” to immigrants who worked hard to earn their citizenship. The 2023 elections are the target date for allowing non-citizens to vote.
