Church of England’s Archbishop Defends Restricted Speech

Objectivity 3.0 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.6

The Church of England’s Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby justified social restrictions on free speech. Welby said, “we need to keep a sense of perspective here. No-platforming is not a new phenomenon and there is evidence to suggest that it is very limited… The way I can remember minorities being addressed 40 to 50 years ago shows that more concern about safety then would have been a good thing.” The Archbishop believes freedom of speech allows freedom for the powerful to bully and abuse. These arguments are to censor voices not in alignment with the progressive left.
