Government efforts to address China’s growing low birth rates include offering government assistance programs to encourage family growth. China’s 2021 record low birth rates led the government to allow couples to have up to three children. China’s one-child policy was stopped in 2016 after being in place for four decades. The increased numbers of elderly, coupled with decreased birth rates, created serious demographic issues for Communist China.
