WHO Warns Insect-borne Viruses Could Start Next Pandemic

According to the World Health Organization, insect-borne pathogens pose an increasing risk and could lead to another pandemic, especially as almost four billion people live in tropical and sub-tropical areas where those pathogens thrive. Experts are looking to put strategies in place to prevent another infectious outbreak. Dr Sylvie Briand, director of the Global Infectious Hazard Preparedness team at the WHO said, “We have been through two years of Covid-19 pandemic and we have learned the hard way what [it costs] not to be enough prepared for high impact events.”
