Mayorkas Acknowledges Obligation of DHS to Continue Border Wall Construction

Objectivity 4.3 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.8

The Department of Homeland Security has spent $72 million to stop building the U.S.-Mexico border wall.  While Biden has not requested any new border wall money, there is $2.5 billion Congress previously allocated for it that remains unspent. Under the law, Mayorkas is required to use that money for wall building. The problem is that Biden, during the 2020 campaign, insisted that not “another foot” of wall would be built on his watch. “We are well aware of our responsibility to spend the funds that have been appropriated to the wall,” Mayorkas said.
