Biden Vows to Defend Taiwan But Administration Officials Retract

Biden made comments during his visit to Asian countries saying the U.S. would defend Taiwan in the case of a Chinese invasion.  His Administration has corrected the President’s comments repeatedly stating that the U.S. government does not support Taiwan’s independence.  American Enterprise Institute nonresident fellow Michael Mazza stated about The Taiwan Relations Act, “It does not commit the United States to intervene directly in a conflict to defend Taiwan.”  This time, senior administration officials told reporters the U.S. position has not changed.
