Canada Plans to Freeze Handgun Ownership

Objectivity 4.1 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.6

In response to the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Canada introduced legislation to buy back assault-style firearms and place a freeze on handguns. Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau said, “Unfortunately, the reality is in our country [gun violence] is getting worse and has been getting worse over the past years.” The Washington Post reported that the bill is likely to pass with the support of the New Democratic Party. However, the country’s Conservative Party said the legislation does not address the root cause of gun violence: illegal guns smuggled into the country.
