The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Bayer AG in a California case awarding $87 million to Alva and Alberta Pilliod over claims that the company’s top-selling product, Roundup, causes cancer.  The company was attempting to use the case to scuttle billions of dollars in potential claims. According to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Holly Froum, Bayer’s full liability could be $16 billion which has been set aside to resolve litigation that was inherited when it acquired Monsanto Co., the herbicide’s maker.
