The illegal street sideshows have been a part of urban Southern California culture for years. Street sideshows consist of nearly 200 people blocking the streets whipping around the intersection, burning tires and brake pads sending shrouds of thick smoke into the air. In the last eight months, at least six people have died during or near street takeovers. “Our hands are tied by our limited resources, and we can’t really deal with the crowds,” Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Downing said.
