The former Prince Charles has become England’s new monarch after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II who reigned for 7 decades.  In accordance with British laws of succession, Charles immediately ascended to kingship upon his mother’s death and will be known as King Charles III.  In his first statement as king, he said, “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.  We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother.”
