Virginia Governor Changes Transgender Policy

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.5 | Relevance 4.5

Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin replaced a transgender policy created by Equality Virginia, an LGBT rights group, that was adopted in school districts.  The old model policy forced schools to “eliminate gender-based practices” to avoid omitting transgender students.  Using the U.S. Constitution as evidence, the new policy affirms, “The First Amendment forbids government actors to require individuals to adhere to or adopt any particular ideological beliefs.”  The new draft policy which favors parents’ rights will go into effect at the end of October.
