According to German newspaper Der Spiegel, German security officials maintain the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea were attacked by “highly effective explosive devices,” with seismic signals measured at estimates comparable to that of 500 kilograms of TNT.  Spiegel said the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned Germany weeks in advance of an attack on the pipeline system.  Reuters reported, NATO Secretary-General Jans Stoltenberg said, “All currently available information indicates that this is the result of deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage.”
