A growing number of Republicans and Democrats are calling on Katie Hobbs, Democratic Gubernatorial candidate and the current Arizona Secretary of State, to step back from her role as Elections Chief for Arizona to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest. Richard Mahoney, Democrat and former Arizona Secretary of State said, “I think it would be wise if the secretary of state seconded responsibility for ministerial oversight to either the attorney general or the Maricopa County recorder.” Kari Lake, the Republican candidate, has already hired one of the lawyers who represented President Trump during the lawsuits which followed the 2020 Presidential election, signaling that she is prepared to take legal action if necessary.
