Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the Chinese military to prepare for war, citing that China’s security was “facing increased instability and uncertainty.” “The entire military should devote all its energy to and carry out all its work for combat readiness, enhance its capability to fight and win,” Xi was quoted as saying. Xi received an unprecedented third term as Premier of the Chinese Communist Party and has taken a more hardline approach towards Taiwan, repeatedly saying that the island nation will be “reunified” with mainland China. The announcement raises fears that China will invade Taiwan.
