Afghan Supreme Leader Commands Full Implementation of Islamic Law

Objectivity 4.7 | Credibility 4.5 | Relevance 4.8

Afghanistan’s supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has commanded judges to implement full aspects of Islamic law in the country, including public executions, floggings, stoning and the amputation of limbs for thieves, according to the Taliban’s chief spokesman. Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman, tweeted late Sunday that Akhundzada ordered the “obligatory” command after he met with a company of judges. Despite the Taliban’s promise not to implement harsh rules, it has progressively suppressed people’s rights and freedoms.
