Jim Obergefell, plaintiff of the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court case that redefined marriage nationally, ran for a House seat in Ohio during the midterms. Running as a Democrat, Obergefell campaigned with almost twice the amount of money as his Republican opponent, State Rep. D.J. Swearingen. However, Obergefell lost the seat by 23 percentage points in a landslide. “The results were not what we were hoping for,” he stated after his loss.
