Nicholas Gutierrez, a 22-year-old driver, crashed into 25 Los Angeles County Sheriff’s recruits who were attending a training program. “I didn’t intentionally do it,” Gutierrez said, claiming that he fell asleep while driving. At least 20 recruits were injured, and five in critical condition. Gutierrez was held on a $2 million bond for suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer after the incident. He was provisionally released from custody as the initial complaint was not adequate to hold him. His lawyer refutes any claim that it was intentional or that he holds animosity towards law enforcement.
