U.S. Senate Set To Pass “Respect for Marriage” Act

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.9

The U.S. Senate is expected to pass a bill which repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and will force all states to recognize any marriage recognized by another state.  The bill’s proponents say it will put into law the Supreme Court’s decision on Obergefell v. Hodges, which concluded that the U.S. Constitution provides for the right to same-sex marriage.  However, critics say the bill is “dangerous,” “deceptive,” and “harmful” and will be used as a weapon against Christian businesses and non-profits. Reverend Franklin Graham wrote on Facebook, the bill “is designed to provide strong protections for same-sex marriage — but it fails to protect those of us who believe marriage is between a man and a woman.”
