Ukraine Bans Religious Groups Affiliated with Russia

Objectivity 4.6 | Credibility 4.5 | Relevance 4.5

The Ukrainian government on Friday banned religious groups “affiliated with centers of influence” in Russia in an effort to dispel pro-Russian narratives in the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that would impose sanctions against representatives of religious groups linked to Russia. The law also allows the government to examine the ties between the Ukrainian and Russian Orthodox churches, as Ukrainian authorities suspect the Ukrainian Orthodox Church promotes pro-Russian narratives and even cooperates with Russia.
