Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, who was under investigation for corruption, has been removed and impeached for attempting to dissolve the Congress and rule by decree.  He announced that he would form a new government and had implemented a nightly curfew.  Peru’s Congress ignored the call and voted to impeach Castillo 101-6 with 10 abstaining. The head of Peru’s army and four cabinet members have resigned in wake of the Castillo’s removal.  Vice President Dina Boluarte has been installed as the country’s first woman president.  She stated, “What I ask for is a space, a time to rescue the country.”
