The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), a non-profit which analyses and makes recommendations concerning America’s electrical grid, has released its annual report which finds that large areas of the U.S. are at risk for energy shortfalls over the next decade. The report found that one common denominator for the areas at risk are regions where utility companies have retired fossil fuel power plants before ensuring that replacement power plants have been constructed. The areas at highest risk for energy shortfalls are California and large portions of the Midwest and South.
