A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) showed the impact of changes that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic on mothers. The analysis divided 11,473 mothers, who were all a part of the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program with the National Institute of Health, into two groups: 3,061 experienced low change and 8,412 experienced high change. In a press release, the main conclusion of the study is that many of the mothers shared symptoms of acute stress disorder (ASD). ASD symptoms are similar to those of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with PTSD symptoms lasting more than a month.
