Lee Fang, investigative journalist, released part 8 of the Twitter Files which reveals details about how the platform was quietly aiding an online PsyOp Campaign by the Pentagon. For years Twitter had promised to shut down secret state-backed propaganda networks with procedures set in place to detect and stop it. Despite this, Twitter was cooperating with the U.S. military behind the scenes, giving special protection and approval to the Online Psychological Influence Operations. In 2017, at the request of a U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) official, Twitter granted certain accounts to be tagged as “whitelist” and verified others without the blue check mark.
