Thousands More Flights Canceled by Southwest

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.9

As of Thursday morning Southwest Airlines has canceled nearly 2,400 more flights, totaling around 15,000 cancelations this week as they have been unable to stabilize operations due to the winter storm.  CEO Bob Jordan explained the reason the storm has affected them more than other airlines is because Southwest is the biggest carrier in the nation; its network is “highly complex” and operations depend on “all the pieces, especially aircraft and crews, remaining in motion.”  He said, “Cities where large numbers of scheduled flights simultaneously froze as record bitter cold brought challenges for all airlines,” adding that he’s “truly sorry.”
