The Food and Drug Administration under the Biden Administration has expanded the availability of abortion pills. Under the new rules, women no longer have to pick up the prescription in person and after certification, more retail pharmacies will be able to sell the pills. During COVID-19 the government temporarily suspended long-standing requirements but now the relaxed rules have been made permanent. Despite the rule change, laws in some states still limit the availability of abortion pills. According to the pro-abortion research group Guttmacher Institute, more than half of all abortions in the U.S. are done with pills rather than surgery.
