Russian President Vladimir Putin has deployed the Russian frigate “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov” to the Atlantic Ocean. The Gorshkov is armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles which can fly at 9 times the speed of sound and has a range of over 1,000 kilometers. Hypersonic weapons are seen as the cutting edge in weapons technology because they can overcome missile defense systems with their speed and maneuverability. Russia, China and the United States are all developing hypersonic weapons.
