President Joe Biden said the U.S. would immediately begin turning away Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans who cross the southern border illegally. “Do not, do not just show up at the border…. Stay where you are and apply legally from there,” Biden said. Homeland Security officials said they would start rejecting asylum requests to those who avoid legal pathways and do not first ask for asylum in the country through which they traveled to the U.S.
