U.S. Geographic Sites Renamed; “Derogatory” Terms Removed

The ‘Derogatory Geographic Names Task Force’ continues its efforts in identifying sites and locations in the U.S. that have names perpetuating “oppression.”  Five sites’ names were recently changed due to the word “squaw,” an allegedly racist term.  “Words matter, particularly in our work to ensure our nation’s public lands and waters are accessible and welcoming to people of all backgrounds,” says U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland.
