Yuma Hospital on the Brink of Bankruptcy from Migrant Care in AZ

Objectivity 4.9 | Credibility 4.9 | Relevance 4.8

The only hospital in the border town of Yuma, Arizona, is overwhelmed by an influx of migrant patients causing a strain on medical resources and pushing the facility to the brink of collapse due to insufficient funding. Yuma Regional Medical Center president and CEO Dr. Robert Transchel said the problem is nothing new and stated, “It’s been a long journey. We’ve been at this for well over a year now. We tracked our uncompensated care for a period of over six months, and we calculated that we’ve provided over $20 million in uncompensated care to the migrants crossing the border.”
