After an all-senators classified briefing on February 9 held by officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) questioned whether American companies might have assisted in the manufacturing of the Chinese spy balloon that flew over the continental United States for days before being destroyed over the Atlantic.  After the briefing, Sullivan told reporters that officials did not provide a conclusive response. Hawley agreed, saying, “I don’t think there was any definitive answer on that,” but added it was a “very disturbing possibility.”
