News media in Syria are reporting that Israel conducted an air strike on Sunday against Iranian officials who were in a Damascus neighborhood. Israeli intelligence and security expert, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Yossi Kuperwasser said, “Israel continues to actively undermine and hamper Iranian efforts to supply the [Bashar] Assad regime [in Syria] and Hezbollah with advanced weaponry.” Sources inside Syria say that 5 people were killed and 15 injured, but Kuperwasser said that not all the casualties were a result of Israeli fire. Sources say Syrian anti-aircraft missiles went astray and struck a building. While Israel declined to officially comment on the air strike, it came the same day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Iran for an attack on an Israeli owned oil tanker in the Persian Gulf last week.
