Belarus Opposition Claims Destruction Of Russian Surveillance Aircraft

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.6 | Relevance 4.6

Aliaksandr Azarov, leader of Belarusian antigovernmental organization BYPOL, claims that the group successfully carried out an attack on a Russian Beriev A-50 “Mainstay” surveillance aircraft at an airfield near Minsk, the capitol of Belarus. Azarov said that drones were used to destroy the plane but has not offered proof of the claim. The Belarus government denied Azarov’s claim and the Kremlin has refused to comment.  Belarus, which borders both Russia and Ukraine, has remained a steadfast ally of Russia and even allowed Russian troops to stage from Belarus while not actively engaged in the war itself.
