The Tennessee House of Representatives has passed two bills intended to protect children. The first, House Bill 9, makes it a misdemeanor offense for anyone who performs an “adult cabaret” in public where it could be viewed by non-adults. The bill includes “male or female impersonators” in its definition of “adult cabaret.” The second bill prohibits doctors from providing gender-altering treatments to anyone under the age of 18 whether it be surgery or drugs. Doctors who violate the law could be penalized. Both bills are expected to pass the state senate and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) is expected to sign both bills into law.
