A federal database that shows the number of unused approved oil and drilling permits was quietly updated by the Biden Administration who reduced the number by more than 2,000. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), a sub-agency of the Department of Interior (DOI), claims the revision was needed to account for a Trump-era “reporting discrepancy resulting from a transition to a new database in mid-2020.” This adjustment points to the Biden administration inflating the number of approved permits that oil and gas companies have failed to produce amid last year’s energy crisis.
