Citizens from different neighborhoods have come out of their homes again in El Salvador after President Nayib Bukele declared victory in his war against gangs. Bukele began an emergency regime in March 2022 that would allow him to attack the gang members who had intimidated the country. “There are only two paths for a gang member: jail or death, there is no other,” Bukele announced in April of last year. In the streets of the communities and neighborhoods in El Salvador, a renewed security and majority support for President Bukele as leader of the war against gangs is perceived.
