Objectivity 4.7 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.7

The U.S. has seen many train derailments in multiple states already in 2023, among them the latest trains to detail was one carrying beer in Montana near Sheep Creek which posed no risk to the public, officials said.  The nation’s railroads transport millions of tons of cargo every day on about 140,000 miles of rails and data shows derailments are not unusual.  However, since the East Palestine, Ohio, derailment that resulted in a major hazmat incident, more attention is being drawn to safety standards.  On March 1 the Bipartisan Railway Safety Act of 2023 was introduced with the intent of increasing train safety while ensuring aid is provided to communities in the event of a hazardous materials spill.  President Biden has endorsed the legislation.
