Twitter Removes “Government-Funded” Label from Global Media Organizations’ Accounts

Media organizations, including NPR and the CBC, had threatened to leave Twitter amid controversy over the label “government-funded.”  As a result, Elon Musk has removed labels from Twitter identifying global media organizations as government-funded or state-affiliated.  This move comes as the blue verification checkmarks have been stripped from legacy verified accounts, like Oprah Winfrey and Pope Francis, that don’t subscribe to Twitter Blue.
