The Biden administration has approved the deployment of 1,500 U.S. troops to the southern border in response to concerns that tens of thousands of migrants will surge into the country once Title 42 is lifted on May 11. The soldiers, to come from a range of active duty Army units, will serve in administrative and transport roles for 90 days in order to free up law enforcement and Border Patrol. Officials said this would be similar to deployments to the border ordered by former President Donald Trump.
