Protestors have shut down traffic, shop windows are being broken and street fires burn in Paris and other cities after French President Emmanuel Macron invoked a special constitutional power to force Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to push through the controversial pension bill which raises the retirement age from 62 to 64 without a parliamentary vote. Macron’s tactic has infuriated opposition leaders and worker unions alike to the point that protests have erupted all over the country and a vote of no confidence will be held next week against Prime Minister Borne’s government. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has said that over 300 people were arrested overnight with most of the arrests being made in Paris.
